From a Wiki article:

San Francisco (Be Sure to Wear [Some] Flowers in Your Hair)” is a psychedelic pop song, written by John Phillips, and sung by Scott McKenzie.[2] It was produced and released in May 1967 by Phillips and Lou Adler, who used it to promote their Monterey International Pop Music Festival held in June of that year.[3]

The song became one of the best-selling singles of the 1960s in the world, reaching the fourth position on the US charts and the number one spot on the UK charts. In Ireland, it was number one for one week, in New Zealand the song spent five weeks at number one, and in Germany it was six weeks at number one.

McKenzie’s version has been called “the unofficial anthem of the counterculture movement of the 1960s, including the Hippie, Anti-Vietnam War and Flower power movements.”[4]

“San Francisco (Be Sure to Wear Some Flowers In Your Hair”, by Scott McKenzie, was released in 1967. It was written by John Phillips, and is on the Ode and Columbia labels.

If you’re going to San Francisco
Be sure to wear some flowers in your hair
If you’re going to San Francisco
You’re gonna meet some gentle people there

For those who come to San Francisco
Summertime will be a love-in there
In the streets of San Francisco
Gentle people with flowers in their hair

All across the nation
Such a strange vibration
People in motion
There’s a whole generation
With a new explanation
People in motion
People in motion

For those who come to San Francisco
Be sure to wear some flowers in your hair
If you come to San Francisco
Summertime will be a love-in there

If you come to San Francisco
Summertime will be a love-in there

  1. It has been a loooooooooooooong time since I have to listen to this song, but it is a wonderful song. I have been rewatching John Phillips’ daughter Mackenzie’s show So Weird recently.

    • Thanks, Ai!
It is a good song, and I just happened to think of it. Actually I didn’t remember the name of it, so just entered flowers in her hair or something like that. It’s nice to have google to look stuff up these days.
I haven’t seen her new show. We do get re-runs of the TV show One Day at a Time, which are fun to watch. I read her autobiography – such a sad strange life she has had.
