It’s that time again for the April A to Z Blog Challenge. I’ve done this one for quite a few years, and it’s always fun.

This time I decided to go with the miscellaneous type posts, which some days will be whatever I want, and other days will be a resurrection of my older posts that pretty much no one or very few ever saw.

So, here we go with Day # 3 – Letter C …

#AtoZChallenge 2021 April Blogging from A to Z Challenge letter C

So, I’m in a silly mood this afternoon. This post is just some of the craziness I think of all the time, every day, random bits of this and that. Sometimes I can focus long enough to put together a coherent blog post, which sounds like I know what I’m talking about. Other times I just write down the free flow of thoughts in my notebooks, and I have a lot of them. (thoughts and notebooks)

So, back to the title of this. I had my fingers on the wrong keys to type the word cauliflower. It looks silly. So, I left it there. Actually, I’d been thinking of that word … how do you pronounce it? I’ve looked in the dictionary, and it’s pretty straight forward… ko-li-flau-er…with some little do-dads on top of the letters, that I don’t really know what they mean, and this keyboard probably don’t have them, anyway.

So, here’s what I was thinking about how to say it.

Call – a – flower ( is this a bit like ‘phone-a-friend’?)

Call – ya – flower ( Hey, come here, flower. Except flowers don’t generally travel around)

Collie – flour (like a dog? Covered in flour? Or, heaven forbid, flour made from a dog?)

I usually go with the second example, most of the time, even though I know it is wrong. Maybe it is just because of the southern (or Texas) dialect/accent?

So, anyway, cauliflower is a funny word. (and yes, I do like to eat it)

So, there are sure a lot of parentheses in here, and the word so…don’t ya think?

So, again, thanks for stopping by for a few laughs on this afternoon. Have a great weekend! (and try not to think of the word cauliflower too much!)

  1. LOL. You’ve got me contemplating the word for the first time in my life, Barbara. I don’t care what it’s called but I love eating it. My latest favorite way is to (for health conscious people, skip this part) cut it in pieces, dip it in mayo, then dip it in bread crumbs with curry powder in it, then bake for 45 minutes or so. Oh does it taste good.

  2. We’ve been eating a lot of cauliflower recently since it is a great (?) substitute for potatoes in our Keto friendly eating. I say it like Collie the dog

    • Thanks, Janet! We like it, but hardly ever eat it, except maybe a little in a salad. I have heard of making it liked potatoes, and also some kind of crust for pizza? I don’t know about that. haha Collie sounds just as good as any way to say it. 🙂

  3. I use the flour covered dog pronunciation – never occurred to me there might be other ways of saying it! Regardless, it’s one of my fave veg.

    • Thanks, John! We don’t have it very often, and then just raw in a salad. I have heard it can be done up in all kinds of ways, though. Riced is a new one to know about. 🙂
