This song, “Yellow River” is one of my favorites. I still have the 45 record of it (see photo).
It is said that the song was inspired by the thought of a soldier coming home after fighting in the Civil War. As it was released during the era of the Viet Nam war, some thought it was about a place there.
I think it is a good song, a happy song, that conveys the relief of a soldier coming home to his family and friends after a long time away, fighting for his country.

As an Army wife for over 21 years, we are now retired. I have been, and later our children have been on the home front side, giving support for our soldier, husband, and father.I honor all those who serve in the military, whatever branch they choose. It is not easy. We knew the relief of our loved one coming home after war, when so many of our friends and families did not.
I do not like war. I am for Peace…worldwide.

“Yellow River”, by Christie, was released as a single from the album, “Christie”, in 1970, on the labels CBS (UK) and Epic (US). It was written by Jeff Christie.

So long boy you can take my place got my papers I’ve got my pay
So pack my bags and I’ll be on my way to yellow river
Put my guns down the war is won
Fill my glass high the time has come
I’m going back to the place that I love yellow river
Yellow river yellow river is in my mind and in my eyes
Yellow river yellow river is in my blood it’s the place I love
Got no time for explanation got no time to lose
Tomorrow night you’ll find me
Sleeping underneath the moon at yellow river
Cannon fire lingers in my mind I’m so glad that I’m still alive
And I’ve been gone for such a long time from yellow river
I remember the nights were cool I can still see the water pool
And I remember the girl that I knew from yellow river
Yellow river yellow river is in my mind and in my eyes
Yellow river yellow river is in my blood it’s the place I love

Great story about this song: it was originally done by The Tremeloes, but they decided to come out with another song. The producers took the vocal track off of the Tremeloes version and had Christie dub his vocals onto it. Here’s The Tremeloes version… https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6qdAO_Y0wiA
Whoever does it, it’s a great song.

Thanks, John! That is interesting how they did that with both bands. I had no idea. I listened to the video and it sounds great, too. Always liked the song. 🙂
