First thing …
Except there is never a real first thing, because there is always some thing before you get to the first thing.
You may have plans for doing a first thing, but before you can get to doing it there are several other things that have to happen first, before the actual first thing you want to do.
Say I want to make a post for this SOCS challenge. Well first I have to find the email notice that Linda has posted her prompt. Then I have to go there and copy/paste the address thing to my place. That’s to set the pingback. Then I have to go back and copy the actual prompt, Go back to mine and paste it in. Then go back to hers and get the little picture, go back to mine and paste it in. Then it takes awhile to think of something to say.
Haven’t even got the first thing of writing a post, yet!
But I finally do, and then I sign off with my usual … hit publish, and that is the –

College math books will generally have a Chapter 0 outlining the things you need to know before getting into chapter 1.

THIS IS SO TRUE. I wake up knowing there’s something that has to get done “first thing” & I’m always sidetracked by something else first.

Oh those sidetracks … always a few of those, and maybe sometime later we get to the place where we wanted to start in the first place! haha – and I’m thinking the ‘last thing’ is not really ever the last thing, either. There’s the afterwards checking back at the first thing to make sure the first thing was done okay. It never ends does it. 🙂
