From the Wiki article:

The single stayed at number one for one week and spent a total of twenty weeks on the country music charts.

Donald Ray Williams (May 27, 1939 – September 8, 2017) was an American country singer, songwriter, and 2010 inductee to the Country Music Hall of Fame. He began his solo career in 1971, singing popular ballads and amassing 17 number one country hits. His straightforward yet smooth bass-baritone voice, soft tones, and imposing build earned him the nickname: “Gentle Giant” of country music.[1] He was also noted for his “velvet voice”.

Lord, I hope this day is good
I’m feelin’ empty and misunderstood
I should be thankful, Lord, I know I should
But Lord I hope this day is good

Lord, have you forgotten me
I’ve been prayin’ to you faithfully
I’m not sayin’ I’m a righteous man
But Lord I hope you understand

I don’t need fortune and I don’t need fame
Send down the thunder, Lord, send down the rain
But when you’re plannin’ just how it will be
Plan a good day for me

Lord, I hope this day is good
I’m feelin’ empty and misunderstood
I should be thankful, Lord, I know I should
But Lord I hope this day is good

You’ve been the King since the dawn of time
All that I’m askin’ is a little less crime
It might be hard for the devil to do
But it would be easy for you

I’m feelin’ empty and misunderstood
I should be thankful, Lord, I know I should
But Lord I hope this day is good

  1. I really enjoyed this song Barbara, thanks for sharing it. Hey I started watching Roswell season 2 on Netflix and I remember you saying that you liked this series, so I was wondering if you have seen the second season yet.

    • Thanks, Jim! I’m glad you enjoyed the song. Don Williams had some really great songs over the years. He was born right up the road from us here in Lubbock in a little town called Floydada TX.
Wonderful you are watching Roswell! It’s one of my favorite of all time series. Yes, I’ve seen season 2. In fact I have the whole series on VHS and have watched it many times. 🙂

  2. I remember him because my dad liked him and he was mostly a blues fan. 🙂 I enjoyed this song – low-key amazing! No high notes or long rifts…just an easy, laid-back, heartfelt song. Perfect.

    • Thanks, Felicia!
Glad you enjoyed this one. Seems most of his songs were like that, just plain, with great words and tunes, nothing real fancy – just plain old good easy feeling songs. 🙂
