From the Wiki article – https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ruby_Tuesday_(song)

“Ruby Tuesday” was released as the B-side to “Let’s Spend the Night Together” on January 1967.[1] Due to the controversial nature of the A-side’s lyrics, “Ruby Tuesday” earned more airplay and ended up charting higher in both the UK and the US.[10] The song topped the American Billboard Hot 100 chart, while reaching number three in the UK’s Record Retailer chart, which listed “Let’s Spend The Night Together”/”Ruby Tuesday” as a double A-side.

“Ruby Tuesday”, by the Rolling Stones, was a single released in 1967. It was written by Jagger/Richards, and is on the Decca – London labels.

[Verse 1]
She would never say where she came from
Yesterday don’t matter if it’s gone
While the sun is bright
Or in the darkest night
No one knows
She comes and goes

[Chorus]
Goodbye Ruby Tuesday
Who could hang a name on you?
When you change with every new day

Still I’m going to miss you

[Verse 2]
Don’t question why she needs to be so free
She’ll tell you it’s the only way to be
She just can’t be chained
To a life where nothing’s gained
And nothing’s lost
At such a cost

[Chorus]
Goodbye Ruby Tuesday
Who could hang a name on you?

When you change with every new day
Still I’m going to miss you

“There’s no time to lose,” I heard her say
“Catch your dreams before they slip away
Dying all the time

Lose your dreams and you
Will lose your mind
Ain’t life unkind?”

[Chorus]
Goodbye Ruby Tuesday
Who could hang a name on you?
When you change with every new day
Still I’m going to miss you

Goodbye Ruby Tuesday
Who could hang a name on you?
When you change with every new day
Still I’m going to miss you

  1. It has been a while since I have heard this song but it is a great tune. “Ruby Tuesday” was at the beginning of Rolling Stones’ career? This always seemed to be a song that had a different sound than their other classics.

    • Thanks, Ai!
I’m thinking the song was fairly early in their career. I read that they got started in 1962, so when this one came out in 1967, they’d been around awhile. I love the sound of this one, too. ๐Ÿ™‚
