I saw this very tall gas pump one day when we were at a yard sale. It wasn’t for sale, though. It’s called a ‘visible gas pump’, because you could see the gasoline that was being used, up in the glass container on top of the base.
From an online article:
By 1918, the first visible pump was introduced. The customer was able to see just how much fuel he was purchasing by the inclusion of a large glass cylinder that was hooked up to the pump.

This is a cute video and song that even has a visible gas pump in the video.
“Gasoline and Matches”, by LeAnn Rimes, Rob Thomas, and Jeff Beck.

Fascinating bit of history 🙂
and what a brilliant song . . . never heard it before. My foot was tapping away this morning
I’d never heard it before either, but thought how cute it was! 🙂
Very cute
Thanks, Becky!
These kind were before my time, but they are interesting to see them. Glad you enjoyed it, too. 🙂
