This topic of ‘Baby’ sounds easy, and it is … until it isn’t. There are about a bah-jillion songs out there with that word in the title or lyrics. Well, one place I looked had almost 500 songs listed, which would take forever to look through. So which one to choose?
I’m going with one of the first I thought of on my own, without looking at a list first.
I always liked this one, and it’s easy to sing along to.
From reading a little about it, I found there is also a 2017 movie by the same name, but it wasn’t based on this song. However, the song does play during the end credits to the movie.
Here’s a bit from the Wiki article about the song:
“Baby Driver”, an uptempo and happy rock and roll song,[43] already released as a B-side of “The Boxer”, tells about a boy who lives a comfortable life in a protected home, but who searches for adventures and one day decides to have his first sexual experience.[44][45] The recording features car noises, Beach Boys-like singing parts and absurd syllables.[46] Edgar Wright‘s 2017 action comedy film Baby Driver is named after the song, which is played at the end credits.[47]

“Baby Driver”, by Simon & Garfunkel, can be found on their 1970 studio album, “Bridge Over Troubled Water”. It is on the Columbia label.

[Chorus]
They call me Baby Driver
And once upon a pair of wheels
I hit the road and I’m gone
What’s my number?
I wonder how your engines feel
(Ba ba ba ba)
Scoot down the road
What’s my number?
I wonder how your engines feel
Shine the light
[Chorus]
They call me Baby Driver
And once upon a pair of wheels
I hit the road and I’m gone
What’s my number?
I wonder how your engines feel
(Ba ba ba ba)
Scoot down the road
What’s my number?
I wonder how your engines feel
[Verse 3]
My daddy got a big promotion
My mamma got a raise in pay
There’s no-one home, we’re all alone
Oh, come into my room and play
Yes, we can play
[Chorus]
I’m not talking about your pigtails
But I’m talking ’bout your sex appeal
I hit the road and I’m gone
What’s my number?
I wonder how your engines feel
(Ba ba ba ba)
Scoot down the road
What’s my number?
I wonder how your engines feel

It has been years since I even thought of this one, though I always liked it. No telling why it came to mind for today. It was good to hear it again. 🙂

Sounds like something from Paul’s “Here Comes Rhymin’ Simon” years. It’s good!

‘Rhymin’ Simon’ years! That’s a new phrase I’ve never heard, but I like it. I do like their more peppy songs like this one. Glad you stopped by to listen. 🙂
