Dress

First I think of wearing a dress. But, I don’t very often wear a dress. I have a few that I wear sometimes just here at home. They are long and flowing, and kind of like mu-mus. (think Mrs. Roper on 3’s Company TV show). They are comfortable, but I wouldn’t wear them out in public. Maybe that’s because the ones I have are more the novelty type, rather than a dressy type. They have embroidery, sequins, wild patterns, and fringe.

Mostly though, I was thinking of address books. Those little paper notebooks where you write down people’s addresses, phone numbers, and any other information you might want to remember, like birthday dates.

Does anyone still use these, or is it all kept on phone apps? I have a little bit in my phone memory, but I still mainly use the old-fashioned notebook type of keeping track. I use it all the time. Or maybe people just use what is called a planner?

I wind up making a mess sometimes of the book, by sticking stickers on it, stuffing other stickers in between the pages, and old envelopes that have addresses on them. I tape little notes of information in there, too, and lots of scribbles & doodles.

If you do, or did use these, do you keep them, even if they are filled up, or the addresses have changed as people move house? I do. I have lots of old ones. It’s fun to look back through them, to remember people I haven’t heard from in a long time, or remember different places our own selves have lived, at the addresses and phone numbers we used to remember so well.

There are lots more ways to use ‘dress’, but for now I’ll just wish you a wonderful weekend – dress however you want. 🙂

Here’s a couple of mine:

The first one is the current one, and I haven’t messed it up much, yet. The last one I had is a big mess.

  1. No more paper address books for me – I never updated them anyway (much easier to do on the phone). I don’t know what I will do when the zombie apocalypse comes…probably there will be no one to call anyway.

    • I guess I’m too set in my ways to give up using paper for everything. Yeah, the zombie apocalypse would be a big problem for paper notes or even our phones. We’d be too busy running away. 🙂

    • Thanks, Janet!
It is interesting how advances in technology changes how people do things, like keeping notes and information in their phones now. I haven’t gotten used to doing it yet. 🙂

  2. I do have a paper address book and still use it. I found it in a store that sold all kinds of unique items so my address book is yellow and called “My Yellow Pages.” I have some stuff stored in my phone, too, but I use my phone as a phone (only 2 apps installed, for food places so I can just run in an pick up an order). Otherwise, I’m still using paper address books and calendars. There’s just something about the paper in my hands. 🙂

    • Thanks, Tara!
I’m the same with using the address book, and also paper calendars. Besides, they have such cute pictures, and you can write in the block spaces. Well, that’s how we keep up with birthdays and Dr. appts. I probably would forget to check my phone for these. I like the name of your address book! 🙂

  3. I have a small spiral address book that I still use, because you never know what might happen to a phone. Your long flowing comfortable dresses sound wonderful, especially with the embroidery and fringe.

  4. I don’t use an address book like that anymore, but I do have a planner that keeps track of birthdays. I keep my addresses mostly on my phone or in a word document (printed out so I don’t have to go to my computer). My mom had one of those little planners that had the case on it and a sliding bar that would switch it from letter to letter and when you got to the letter you wanted, you’d press on the cover and it would open up. My youngest fell in love with it when she’d visit Nana’s house, it is a treasured memento item she kept and still uses. I hope you’re having a great weekend!

    • Thanks, Shelley!
Guess I’m still old fashioned enough to still want to use paper notebooks and all. Oh, I remember those little planner things in a case, with the slider. I think my mom had one. Made it easy to find what you were looking for. What a nice memento to still have and use it. 🙂

      • You’re welcome. I prefer paper too! After my computer crashed recently, I was SUPER thankful that my calendar was a paper version!! Yes, that little slider thing is so cool. She was even able to find blank pages for it on Etsy. Imagine that! 😉

      • Well how about that. I had no idea you could still find re-fills for the slider.
This is so true, when our computers and all go out, I’m glad to have back up papers. 🙂
