There are lots of songs about trains, and all are good. I picked this one that I’ve heard a few times, because I love the heavy beat, and because of the background of the band.

From reading about them, it seems most band members have a Native American connection in their ancestry. The name of their band, “Blackfoot”, was chosen to honor this.

I, myself, have a Native American connection to the Blackfoot tribe, as my great-grandmother was full blood Blackfoot. Her name is Fatoma, and she is buried in our local cemetery.

From the Wiki article:

“Train, Train” was covered by country music legend Dolly Parton on her 1999 album The Grass Is Blue which won the 2001 Grammy Award for Best Bluegrass Album. Warrant covered the song on their 1990 album Cherry Pie. The song has appeared in the 2011 film Straw Dogs.

“Train Train”, by Blackfoot, is on their studio album, “Strikes”, released in 1979. It was written by Shorty Medlocke, and is on the Atco label. The song “Train, Train“, written by Rickey’s grandfather, “Shorty” Medlocke, became their first success and best known song.

Oh, here it comes

Well, train, train, take me on out of this town
Train, train, Lord, take me on out of this town
Well, that woman I’m in love with, Lord, she’s Memphis bound

Well, leavin’ here, I’m just a raggedy hobo
Lord, I’m leaving here, I’m just a raggedy hobo
Well, that woman I’m in love with, Lord, she’s got to go

Well, goodbye pretty mama, get yourself a money man
Goodbye, pretty mama, Lord, get yourself a money man
You take that midnight train to Memphis
Lord, leave if you can
Oh, take that midnight train to Memphis
Lord, leave if you can
Oh, take that train, baby
