Stream of Consciousness Saturday – Silent/Silence

Stream of Consciousness Saturday – Silent/Silence

The Friday Reminder and Prompt for #SoCS June 1/19

Your Friday prompt for Stream of Consciousness Saturday is “silent/silence.” Use one or both in your post. Have fun!

Today’s SOCS prompt words are silent/silence. Thanks, Linda!

It’s hardly ever completely silent around here. The TV is on from the time we get up, until I turn it off at bed time. We watch some things, but mostly it is just background noise. Once in awhile I do turn off the sound for a little bit.

I like hearing the birds tweeting, the wind rustling the tree leaves, and sometimes a dog barking. But, if I hear a dog barking (the neighbor has two of them – a big one and a little one), so if I hear them barking, I know they are barking at our outside cats. I have to go check, because sometimes the dogs get out and like to aggravate the cats. I have to yell at the dog to go back home.

A couple of times this week the big dog got in our back yard through a gap in the fence where the board slat had come loose. We try to patch it up on our side, but really the fence isn’t ours, it’s the neighbor’s, and they do nothing about the rotten wood that is falling apart.

So yeah, the dogs get out and when they get too close to the cats, the cats take a good old fashioned swipe with their claws right on the nose of the dog. The dog goes yelping and whining back home.  Not much silence then!

But what I started out wanting to write about is this… blogging silence.

Do you ever get the feeling that some bloggers just don’t like you and your posts? All you ever get is silence from them. There’s been a few over the years like that. I go to their blogs, leaving likes and some comments, and I get nothing but silence. I see they leave likes and comments all over the place, but not to me, ever.

I hope I’m not guilty of this, as I do try to get back to everyone, even it it takes awhile. Sorry if I’ve missed you, it’s not intentional.

That’s fine…not everyone has to like everything someone does, and I’m not here just to collect likes, but it still makes me wonder why. Finally, you just give up trying with them, even though others rave about what a nice person they are, and are one of the most popular blogger out there. Hmmm…silence…I don’t know.

And now, let’s all take a moment of silence for those enduring the tragedy that happened in Virginia Beach.

Thanks for visiting! Peace ☮️

  1. Yes on the bloggers. I’ve unfollowed a couple who acted like that, and whose blogs I didn’t care about that much anyway. If I really like a blog, and the blogger only replies to me if I comment there, fine. But these were blogs I only followed bc they’re in the group loop. Pffft. I guess they were too important to bother with me, lol.

  2. I do my best to at least respond to the comments people leave on my blog. There are times when I think that I don’t get comments because people aren’t interested in what I talked about in the post (not that it ever stops me from writing about those things). I know when I’m reading blogs, sometimes the only thing I can do is give the person a thumbs-up, because I don’t know what else to say. It’s not an issue of I don’t like their posts. Well, maybe sometimes…

    • Thanks, John. Same here, and it was just something I was wondering about. Everyone does blogging however they want to. I appreciate your thoughts on this. 🙂

  3. I am one of the silent blog-followers. So I don’t mind so much if people don’t comment on my blog, because I don’t always take the time to tell others how much I enjoy reading their blogs!

    • Thanks, Emily. I do that a lot, too, but if someone keeps liking and commenting, I do get back to them at some point. It’s just interesting to see how different people respond or not. Thanks for your thoughts on this, too. 😉

  4. I definitely respond to comments when people take the time to comment on one of my posts. I don’t always comment on other’s either because of time or because I may like the post but not have anything that I feel I could add to the conversation.

    • Same here, Janet! I’ll get back to people who’ve commented on mine for sure, as soon as I can (admittedly I’ve sometimes missed a few). It’s just a courtesy to do this. But when I’ve commented and liked many times, and get nothing from them, it’s time to unfollow, I think. Thanks for your thoughts on this. 🙂

  5. I do my best to respond to comments and visit commenters. I just wish I had more time (or a clone perhaps) to explore more posts, If I had a clone, she could tell me, “You gotta read this part!” I wonder if the silent bloggers are more introverted. For me, writing is way easier than talking.

    • Thanks, JoAnna! That would be great if we had more time, or a clone so we could read everything every day. 🙂
I’m the same, because it’s much easier to type/talk than actual face to face talking. I get my thoughts and words all messed up, where on here I have time to think about and how to say something. I like getting to know other bloggers wherever they are, and to do that you have to have a bit of conversation back and forth. 🙂

  6. Aw, your kitties are nice and tough and own their turf! That’s great they let the dogs know who’s the boss of your yard. I hear you on the blogger silence – and I’m guilty of not getting around to fellow blogs often enough, that’s for darn sure! I appreciate you and your kindness in reaching out, thank you for doing so. Thank you for reminding us all that it is important to be kind to each other :-)!

    • Thanks, Shelley! Most all the cats get along great and look out for each other, and even the older cats do kitty babysitting the little ones, even if they aren’t their own. I still worry when a dog gets in the yard, though.
I agree, it takes time to respond to everyone on blogs, between creating our own posts, and reading, liking, and commenting on others. Some, like me, post several times a day, and they are all so interesting I want to read them all! 🙂

      • You’re welcome. Aw, I bet it is fun to watch the cats do their thing.
Yeah, I don’t know how to keep up with all the blogging efforts. I have resorted to forgiving myself, and admitting to the fact I do this very part-time and I do what I can when I do write, comment, post, read, etc. Way to go being able to post more than once a day!!!

      • It’s impossible to read everything every day, even if we want to, and I think everyone does understand that’s the way it goes in blogging.
I don’t have an outside job, so it keeps me busy.
        Thanks, Shelley! 🙂

  7. Blogging silence is a good angle for this prompt. I had to get tougher skin once I started blogging – it was just too draining to wonder why don’t they like what I write, why don’t they comment. It got simpler once I stopped worrying about it.

    • Thanks, Laura!
I agree, it really does no good to worry about things like that. We post whatever we want, and people either like it or not. When we put ourselves out here, we know it will appeal to some, but not to others. 🙂
