I remember this song quite well. My friend and I both liked it and the band, so when we heard they were coming to our town, we made a special trip out to the airport to greet them (with a lot of other teen-age girls). It was fun to see them get off the plane, and pass right by us, and we got to say hi. 🙂

I saved a paper cup I’d had a Cola in, at the time, in my scrapbook! haha

Oh yeah, neither one of us had our driver’s license yet, so her mom drove us out there. We were always getting her to drive us to meet bands.

From the Wiki article about how this song came to be written, by Carole Bayer Sager and Toni Wine.

The song title was an early use of the slang word “groovy“, and both women were interested in using the word because they recognized it as a new, “happening” word. Wine said, “Carole came up with ‘Groovy kinda… groovy kinda… groovy…’ and we’re all just saying, ‘Kinda groovy, kinda groovy, kinda…’ and I don’t exactly know who came up with “Love”, but it was ‘Groovy kind of love’. And we did it. We wrote it in 20 minutes. It was amazing. Just flew out of our mouths, and at the piano, it was a real quick and easy song to write.”[1]

When I’m feeling blue, all I have to do
Is take a look at you, then I’m not so blue
When you’re close to me, I can feel your heart beat
I can hear you breathing near my ear
Wouldn’t you agree, baby you and me got a groovy kind of love

Anytime you want to you can turn me onto
Anything you want to, anytime at all
When I kiss your lips, ooh I start to shiver
Can’t control the quivering inside
Wouldn’t you agree, baby you and me got a groovy kind of love, oh

When I’m feeling blue, all I have to do
Is take a look at you, then I’m not so blue
When I’m in your arms, nothing seems to matter
My whole world could shatter, I don’t care
Wouldn’t you agree, baby you and me got a groovy kind of love
We got a groovy kind of love
We got a groovy kind of love, oh
We got a groovy kind of love

    • Thanks, John. I did read that Phil Collins had covered this one, but as of yet, I haven’t listened to it. Sometimes tunes are better with different arrangements, and sometimes not so much.:)

  1. I love the melody in this song. One of my favorite songs from those days. That background “Groovy kinda” and the drums make this extra special ❤
