Doppleganger is a German word that means Double Walker. Other descriptive meanings include…
A paranormal double of a living person
A ghostly counterpart of a living person
A double
An alter ego
A person who has the same name as another
The sensation of having glimpsed oneself in one’s own peripheral vision, with no chance of it having been a reflection
Someone who looks spookily like you, but isn’t a twin
Ghost or Shadow of Yourself

Now that we’ve found out what the word ‘doppleganger’ means…how many of you have seen one? How many of you have been one?

I have had both experiences. I’ve seen people many times that look like someone I know. It’s a bit un-nerving, when you realize who you are seeing is not the person you know.

Maybe you smile or wave to them across the way, but they don’t react…or just look at you like you are the weird one. I’ve even gone up to them, said their name, just to be informed that they were not my acquaintence. Then, I had to explain and apologize for the mistaken identity. They usually laugh about it.

One time I saw my daughter, who lived in another state at the time, in the video store here in town. that was pretty strange. I knew she was not here…but, it looked just like her! Another time, at the same video store, I saw the members of the pop band “Green Day”. They were just being normal customers, looking for a video to rent.

Another perspective is the way people come up to me, thinking I’m their friend. I tell them I’m not who they think I am. One lady kept insisting I was! She kept calling me by this other person’s name, and I kept denying I was that person. She was very upset about it. It was such a strange situation to be in.

I know that there are at least two other ladies that live around here that has the same name as me. One of them was funnily enough, the mother of someone my daughter worked with.

I’ve seen someone, a stranger, that looks like my sister at a restaurant here. She doesn’t even live in this town, and was not here visiting.

I seen someone that looked like my late Dad, at a phone store.

Yes, I discretely took their picture.

I’ve always heard that every person has a doppleganger somewhere in the world. I think it would be fun to see my own…or maybe a bit creepy!

What about you? Would you want to meet your doppleganger?

Thanks for visiting! Peace ☮️

  1. I’m sure if I met my doppelganger I would be too busy staring at her thinking, do I really look like that to even have a conversation. For years I was told that i had a doppelganger at the hospital where my kids were born. I never actually saw her though. 🙂

  2. You have a lot of doppelgänger stories!! I feel like I’ve had this experience but can’t for the life of me remember it – guess it must have really freaked me out!

    • Thanks, Laura!
I don’t think I’ve seen anyone that looks like me, but it’s weird that other people have. I thought of another one for my sister. She lives in another town. We go to the same grocery store all the time, and they know us. One person said they saw my sister, because this lady looked almost like me. That was weird, because she’d never ever been to that grocery store. How did they even know I had a sister, I don’t know!

  3. Your encounters seem abnormally high but you say others mistake you for some one else. Do you live neat Roswell, NM? If so then either aliens, not the illegal kind, but those from another world are cloning people and placing them near you or there’s something funny in y’alls water system. 😂 Series, this really bizarre. I’ve seen people who bare resemblance to another but i know quickly it’s not who I thought it was. I can’t say there’s more than one of me. No one has ever shared it with me and no one mistaken me for someone else. I remember when I was a kid wishing I had a double. That way I’d get more done and could be in two different places at the same time. 😁 Fun post!

    • Thanks, Cathy! Very interesting about the aliens and Roswell! I have been to Roswell (in fact my aunt, uncle, & cousins used to live there & we visited them there) and I’ve been there for the UFO festival a few years back. We do live 175 miles from there (takes about 3 hours driving time). Who knows? I do feel I have some sort of connection.
don’t have a twin sister or anything, but I always thought it would be fun if I did. 🙂

  4. So, I have an identical twin sister, we get mistaken for each other all of the time. But that doesn’t count in when it comes to doppelganger stories. 🙂 The only reason I bring it up is because I expect people to come up to me mistaking me for my sister — when we live in the same town, or have lived in the same town at some point in the past (people’s memories are long). Hell, I’ve been accosted by people who thought I was my sister when we lived in separate states because they were visiting my state from whatever state she lived in. Twice! They were all “[sister’s name], what are you doing here?” and we look so much alike I often have to pull out my driver’s license to prove I’m not here.

So imagine my surprise when people started coming up to me in college (a place my sister never set foot in) asking me questions like “Why were’t you in English class?” or “Are you going to class?” or “Do you have the homework assignment from English?” and/or “Do you have a twin?” The last one I always said, “Yes, but she doesn’t live here.” but for the first few I was always, “Um… do I know you?” Turns out I had a doppelganger in my college. I never met her, but she didn’t appear to be a good student because the most asked question I got was “Why weren’t you in class today?” Ha! I never did meet her.

    • I think it would be fun to have a twin sister. I’m sure there are lots more stories you could tell about this. Very interesting about the college encounters and people thinking you were your sister, who’d never even been there! haha – your doppleganger wasn’t a very good student!
The only time my sister and I got called twins, was when we both had the same kind of coat we were wearing, and our hairstyles were the same, but to me she and I don’t look much alike, and she is 5 years younger than me. 🙂
