Yard Sale Tale – a to Z Blog challenge 2019 – Letter Y

Mystery Box Chickens say, “Buy us something good.”

As promised, here’s a funny yard sale tale.

Bookshelf fiasco – This yard sale was a couple of blocks from our house. I’d been to a lot of sales that Saturday morning, and this was the last one before heading home. We had an old Chevy van, and there was quite a lot of items in there that I’d bought. Some of those were potted plants…a lot of these, and I needed to get them home before they wilted in the heat of the day & being in the van for so long.

Well this sale…I spied a cool bookshelf for sale in these people’s yard. I was in a hurry to get out and buy it. I went up to the lady holding the sale, asked her how much ($15.00), gave her the money, and proceeded to get the bookshelf. However, some other customer was standing there dismantling the bookshelf, and about to haul it off to her car. I said, hey…that’s mine…I just paid for it. Well, she argued with me, but finally gave up. I mean, I had already bought it.

So, I get it in the van, and what do you know…it wouldn’t start. I tried starting it over and over, and it just wouldn’t. So I walked home and told the mister he’d have to go fix the van, and where it was. Well, he did, but it didn’t really need fixing. That’s because I’d been in such a hurry to get out, I’d just turned the engine off, and didn’t even put it in park. It wouldn’t start because of that. Yeah. He drove it home, and I was able to unload the plants, bookshelf, and other things. You know, we had that shelf for many years after that. It was worth all the trouble in the end. ๐Ÿ™‚

Well, now I see how long this yard sale tale is, I think I’ll end it here. I do have some more stories, though, so plan on sharing them in separate posts soon.

  1. We are about to have a yard sale soon. I’ve been weeding out so many things from around the house I can’t just give it all to Goodwill. No bookshelves though. Nicely done Y! By the way, I’ve done that Park thing too so don’t feel bad.

    • Thanks, Janet!
I’d much rather go to a yard sale than to have one myself. My daughter sometimes has one, so I just send over some things for that. Good luck with the sale you’ll be having.
You did the park thing, too, huh. haha… glad to know I’m not the only one and it got all figured out for us. ๐Ÿ™‚

  2. I love yard-saling and got so many good cheap clothes for my kids over the years at them. You can get some fabulous bargains at them, and my mom taught me to negotiate with the sellers and about half the time they agree to take less. If they really want to get rid of the item they’ll agree.
