For today’s SLS, Jim has prompted us to find songs about the seasons of the year…our choice, either summer, winter spring, fall/autumn, or just generally any and all combinations. Thanks, Jim! You can join in this weekly musical challenge and also see other entries, by clicking the above link.

I like this song, and have since I first heard it back in 1966. I always did like this band’s songs. This one you could say is all sweet and nice, and gentle soothing sounds. He is singing about enjoying a day out with his love, when they are caught in a summer rain shower. They waited it out under some shelter with a tin roof, and the sound it makes adds to the romantic interlude.

“Rain on the Roof”, by the Lovin’ Spoonful, can be found on their studio album, “Hums of the Lovin’ Spoonful”, released in 1966. It was written by John Sebastian and Zal Yanovsky, and is on the Kama Sutra label.

You and me and rain on the roof
Caught up in a summer shower
Dryin’ while it soaks the flowers
Maybe we’ll be caught for hours

Waitin’ out the sun

You and me were gabbin’ away
Dreamy conversation sittin’ in the hay
Honey, how long was I laughing in the rain with you
‘Cause I didn’t feel a drop ’til the thunder brought us to

You and me underneath the roof of tin
Pretty comfy feelin’ how the rain ain’t leakin’ in
We can sit and dry just as long as it can pour
‘Cause the way it makes you look makes me hope it rains some more

You and me and rain on the roof
Caught up in a summer shower
Dryin’ while it soaks the flowers
Maybe we’ll be caught for hours
Waitin’ out the sun

    • Thanks, John! Some songs are like that for me, too. I don’t remember the name of it, but when I hear it, it all comes back that I have heard it before. Glad you enjoyed hearing this one again. 🙂

  1. Another Lovin’ Spoonful song featured on this weekend’s #SongLyricsSunday. I never heard of this song, I think, but it is quite a nice song!
