For today’s SLS, Jim has given us the topic to find songs about Disc Jockey’s (DJs), Radio, Jukebox or Records. Thanks, Jim!

I found a couple I’d never heard of before, and are a bit different. The first one is pretty funny, with Steve Allen trying to work with a singing group called the Fat Heads, and they keep interrupting each other. It reminds me of when you’re trying to listen to a song, and the DJ keeps talking over it.

The next one is Joe Walsh, being introduced by the famous DJ Wolfman Jack. They talk a bit, then Joe Walsh sings the song, which is pretty rocking.

This little bit with Wolfman Jack, reminds me of when I used to hear him on the radio, way late into the night. I could pick up radio stations from far away, and he was a favorite to listen to.

“The Disc Jockey’s Theme Song,” by Steve Allen, was recorded in 1957, on the Coral label. It was written by Steve Allen. The spoken parts were by Bob Thiele.

Sorry, I just couldn’t find the lyrics to this one…

“The Radio Song”, by Joe Walsh, was released in 1987, from his album, “Got Any Gum?”. It was written by Joe Walsh, and is on the Warner Bros. label.

I like to listen to music

I like the way that it sounds

On the radio

I like to sit in a silent place

When no one’s around

And listen inside it

Inside the silence is a melody

Voices singing harmony

I close my eyes and listen carefully

The silence starts to get loud

It’s like your favorite station

Playing your favorite song

Just like they do on the radio

Inside the silence is a symphony

Every note there is in every key

The music tells me how it wants to be

I help it write itself down

I hear the way that would sound

It’s like your favorite station

Playing your favorite song

Just like they do on the radio

Like they do on the radio

But the radio isn’t on —

On the radio

    • Thanks, Jim!
Both these were new for me, but I’m glad I found them.
Great topic for the prompt, as there were so many ways to go with the songs. 🙂

  1. Steve Allen was a genuinely funny guy. He was funny back then and his humor holds today. Never heard that Joe Walsh song before but I love the words. Double Delight today!

    • Thanks LI!
It is fun to find something new. I think I remember a bit about Steve Allen. I should look up more of his comedy pieces.
The Joe Walsh song surprised me, as it was really good…I had no idea what to expect when I found it and listened to it. 🙂
