For today, Bee has suggested we find patriotic songs, or songs we like about our favorite country. Thanks, Bee!

These don’t necessarily have to be about the country we live in, but for me it is the USA. I’m so thankful we do live here. I’ve lived in other countries, and they are wonderful, but there is just nothing like coming home to our own America.

“This Land is Your Land”, written by folk singer, Woody Guthrie, was released in 1945. It has been recorded by many artists over the years.

What I found was that the song has many verses, and some recordings use the main ones that Woody Guthrie wrote, but they leave out some of the verses. Even this recording by he, himself is different from the listed lyrics I found.

So, I put one of his original recordings, plus one that has pretty pictures, and one version of the lyrics I found.

Anyway, I like the song, and hope you do, too. 🙂

[Words and Music by Woody Guthrie]

[Chorus]
This land is your land, this land is my land
From California, to the New York Island
From the Redwood Forest, to the Gulf Stream waters
This land was made for you and me

[Verse 1]
As I was walking a ribbon of highway
I saw above me an endless skyway
I saw below me a golden valley
This land was made for you and me

[Chorus]
This land is your land, this land is my land
From California, to the New York Island
From the Redwood Forest, to the Gulf Stream waters
This land was made for you and me

[Verse 2]
I’ve roamed and rambled and I’ve followed my footsteps
To the sparkling sands of her diamond deserts

And all around me a voice was sounding
This land was made for you and me

This land is your land, this land is my land
From California, to the New York Island
From the Redwood Forest, to the Gulf Stream waters
This land was made for you and me

[Verse 3]
The sun comes shining as I was strolling
The wheat fields waving and the dust clouds rolling
The fog was lifting a voice come chanting

This land was made for you and me

[Chorus]
This land is your land, this land is my land
From California, to the New York Island
From the Redwood Forest, to the Gulf Stream waters
This land was made for you and me

[Verse 4]
As I was walkin’ – I saw a sign there
And that sign said “No trespassin'”
But on the other side …. it didn’t say nothin!
Now that side was made for you and me!

[Chorus]
This land is your land, this land is my land
From California, to the New York Island
From the Redwood Forest, to the Gulf Stream waters
This land was made for you and me

[Verse 5]
In the squares of the city – In the shadow of the steeple
Near the relief office – I see my people
And some are grumblin’ and some are wonderin’
If this land’s still made for you and me

[Chorus]
This land is your land, this land is my land
From California, to the New York Island
From the Redwood Forest, to the Gulf Stream waters
This land was made for you and me

[Chorus]
This land is your land, this land is my land
From California, to the New York Island
From the Redwood Forest, to the Gulf Stream waters
This land was made for you and me

[Verse 6]
Nobody living can ever stop me
As I go walking that freedom highway;
Nobody living can ever make me turn back
This land was made for you and me

This song is a new one for me, as I found it by searching patriotic songs. I like it a lot.

We don’t have no plastic L.A. friends
Ain’t on the edge of no popular trend
Ain’t never seen the inside of that magazine GQ

We don’t care if you ‘re a lawyer, or a Texas oil man
Or some waitress busting ass in some liquor stand
If you got soul
We hang out with people just like you

My hair’s turning white
My neck’s always been red
My collar’s still blue
We’ve always been here
Just trying to sing the truth to you
Yes, you could say
We’ve always been
Red, white, and blue

Ride our own bikes to Sturgis
We pay our own dues
Smoking camels, drinking domestic brews
You want to know where I have been just look at my hands

Yeah, I’ve driven by the White House
Spent some time in jail
Momma cried but she still wouldn’t pay my bail
I ain’t been no angel, but even God, he understands

My hair’s turning white
My neck’s always been red
My collar’s still blue
We’ve always been here
Just trying to sing the truth to you
Yes, you could say
We’ve always been
Red, white, and blue
Yeah, that’s right

My Daddy worked hard, and so have I
Paid our taxes and gave our lives
To serve this great country
So what are they complaining about

Yeah, we love our families, we love our kids
You know it is love that makes us all so rich
That’s where were at, if they don’t like it they can just
Get the hell out

My hair’s turning white
My neck’s always been red
My collar’s still blue
We’ve always been here
Just trying to sing the truth to you

My hair’s turning white
My neck’s always been red
My collar’s still blue
We’ve always been here
Just trying to sing the truth to you
Yes, you could say
We’ve always been
Red, white, and blue

Oh oh, red, white, and blue
Red, white, and blue
Oh, red, white, and blue

    • Thanks, Bee! Glad you liked these. That’s what I was thinking you were asking for, patriotic songs, so it was fun to listen to some while I was trying to choose one. 🙂

      • I actually thought more about holiday destination but that’s because I don’t feel particular patriotic. But the prompt was probably not very clear. Don’t matter. We had great sings and that’s what counts!!!! 🙋🐝
