Today’s prompt for a song to find is – hardcore. I’m thinking this means something in the hard rock/heavy metal genre of musical styles.

So, a love song from a hardcore metal band? This should be easy, as I listen to lots of this kind of music. But…in looking at a list of such songs, there weren’t very many mentioned. I think people dismiss metal and hard rock as just a bunch of screaming, yelling and crazy loud music, but truthfully there are some great ideas and lyrics if you just pay attention.

Anyway, I’ve always liked GNR and this one is a favorite.

“Sweet Child ‘O Mine”, by Guns N’ Roses, was released from their album, “Appetite for Destruction”, in 1988. The lyrics were written by Axl Rose, referencing his then girlfriend, Erin Everly, but is credited as being written by Guns N’ Roses. It is on the Geffen label.

Instrumental Intro]

[Verse 1]
She’s got a smile that it seems to me
Reminds me of childhood memories
Where everything was as fresh
As the bright blue sky

Now and then when I see her face
She takes me away to that special place
And if I’d stare too long
I’d probably break down and cry

[Chorus]
Oh-oh-oh! Sweet child of mine
Oh, oh, oh-oh! Sweet love of mine

[Verse 2]
She’s got eyes of the bluest skies
As if they thought of rain

I hate to look into those eyes
And see an ounce of pain

Her hair reminds me of a warm, safe place
Where as a child I’d hide
And pray for the thunder and the rain
To quietly pass me by

Oh-oh-oh! Sweet child of mine
Uh-oh, oh, oh! Sweet love of mine

[Instrumental Break]

[Chorus]
Oh yeah! oh, oh! Sweet child of mine
Uh-oh, oh, oh! Sweet love of mine
Uh-oh, oh, oh! Sweet child of mine
Uh-oh, oh, oh! Sweet love of mine

[Guitar Solo]

[Outro]
Where do we go?
Where do we go now?
Where do we go?
Uh, where do we go?
Where do we go now?
Where do we go now?
Where do we go?
Sweet child…
Where do we go now?
Ay, ay, ay ay, ay…
Where do we go now?
Where do we go?
Where do we go now?
Where do we go?
Where do we go now?
Where do we go?
Where do we go now?
Sweet child
Sweet child o’ mine

  1. I never used to like metal, hardrock, punk that sort of music until I started to listen to the lyrics. Now I think they often see deeper and call things by their name which I really like. Great choice: one of the great live songs in my opinion 🙋😗🐝

    • Thanks, Jim! I like that word – fusion! So many bands are influenced by other bands, and take a bit from each to make their own unique sound. Glad you like this one, too! 🙂

    • Thanks, Sandee! I like having challenges to do. Sorry I haven’t had any flowers in awhile, as I haven’t been anywhere to take photos. I’m sure I’ll get back to them one of these days, but for right now guess I’m on a break from them.
Hope you’ve had a great start to the week! ❤
