For today’s song challenge prompt, we have the word kitsch. What does this mean? I read a bunch of stuff about this word, but still I don’t exactly know. Mostly it talked about kitsch in art. One statement was ‘you know it when you see/hear it’. Could be just something funny, quirky, different, cute… ?

Anyway, here’s a song I would say is all of those…kitschy.

“Muscrat Love”, was written, and originally recorded by Willis Alan Ramsey, in 1972. He had titled it, “Muscrat Candlelight”.

Then, in 1973, it was recorded and released by the band, America, and retitled, “Muscrat Love”.

Later, the Captain & Tennille heard the song, thought it was fun and quirky, so added it to their stage show, and then recorded and released it in 1976. Their version resulted in the highest charting of this song.

Muskrat, muskrat
Candlelight
Doin’ the town
And doin’ it right in the evening
It’s pretty pleasing

Muskrat Suzie
Muskrat Sam
Do the jitterbug at a Muskrat Land
And they shimmy
Sam is so skinny

And they whirl
And they twirl and they tango
Singing and jingling a jangle
Float like the heavens above
Looks like Muskrat Love

Nibbling on bacon
Chewing on cheese
Sam says to Suzie
Honey, would you please be my Mrs
Suzie says yes with her kisses

Now, he’s tickling her fancy
Rubbing her toes
Muzzle to muzzle
Now anything goes as they wriggle
Sue starts to giggle

And they whirled
And they twirled and they tango
Singing and jingling a jangle
Floating like the heavens above
Looks like muskrat love

      • Oh, like in musk rat? Ok, that makes sense. Need to Google it I think. I am glad you like it and think it’s fun and I might even stay with the musical theme for the next couple of years. There are just too many songs to share 😗🙋🐝

      • Excellent! Yes, so many good songs new and old. I never get tired of listening, and being introduced to some new ones is always fun. 🙂
