Poem # 6

HALLOWEEN HAPPINESS

~

Halloween comes but once a year

It is my favorite day.

Instead of being melancholy,

Let’s chase the clouds away.

I’ll drizzle caramel on crisp, red apples,

And add rainbow sprinkles, too.

I’ll make enough for all of us,

And certainly for you.

We’ll decorate with orange and black,

And, if it rains, who cares?

We’ll grab our sack,

And not look back,

As we go on down the stairs.

You’ll paint your face,

Wear satin and lace…

A pretty princess you will be.

And I will be a cute, funny bunny…

Hopping around for all to see.

Then when we get home,

And the night is ’bout gone,

We’ll relive all the fun we had.

We’ll eat lots of candy,

And feel real dandy…

That we didn’t have time to be sad.

  1. I used to love Halloween when my kids were little, and even later when some of my friends liked to do fun stuff, but now I’m just a bit bored with it all. Fuddy duddy. 😜

    • It’s lots more fun when you have little ones, and they get so excited about it all. I love all the decorations, and still put out a few, but no one’s here to make a big deal of it any more

    • I know we used to get all into the costumes and trick or treating. Our elementary school would hold a carnival, too, so lots of excitement for Halloween back then. 🙂

  2. I remember the wide variety of candy that used to be handed out on Halloween. The most common was those poisonous chewy things that were wrapped in black and orange wrappers… and I don’t even know if anyone sells those anymore. Now it’s all a bunch of Fun Sized candy bars because that’s all the big stores sell, and that’s so boring!

    • We sure did get a lot of different candies in our trick or treat bag when we were kids. All kinds of good stuff. You’re right, that these days it’s the fun size chocolates (which are good) and the sour kinds of candies. haha those black & orange wrapped ones! I remember them. They may still sell them. I actually liked them! What were they called? I seem to remember ‘mary janes’? Sort of a taffy chewy thing, with peanut butter center? 🙂
