Flower of the Day – Cotton

Flower of the Day – Cotton

These are cotton bolls. They are sometimes used in flower arrangements to add a bit of interest, especially around here. We have fields after fields of cotton growing. In the fall they look like fields of snow. Then they harvest the cotton and take it to the gin for processing.

Here’s a partial quote from Wiki about our cotton:  “…The Lubbock area is the largest contiguous cotton-growing region in the world…”

  1. We got a giggle when we saw it in the store for sale. I always went to a field and got a few that grow by poles or fences where they can’t harvest any way. I love it in fall wreaths or floral arrangements.

    • Hey, Kelly! I know…I’ve gone and picked some cotton from the fields, too. I mean, they are just down the road! R used to work a couple of times with cotton. Once delivering samples to the gins, and another time going in the fields after harvest to glean what was left for a company. They do add a nice touch to arrangements, though! 🙂
