Don’t Read if You’re Squeamish

***

Time: middle of the night, about 2:30 a.m

Scene: my bathroom

Prop: insulated plastic cup with ice and straw

~

I get up to go to the bathroom and get a drink of water. I keep the insulated cup on the counter.

Anyway, I’m still half asleep, and take a big drink of ice water through the straw.

I feel a lump of something in my mouth, and it’s not a piece of ice. I don’t swallow the water.

I spit into the sink.

Out comes a…

Spider!

Yes, I had a spider in my mouth!

It wasn’t a giant one, but about the size of my pinkie fingernail.

I go Ewwww!

I get a tissue and get the spider onto it, putting the spider & tissue on the counter.

Then I go get fresh water to rinse my mouth out with.

I didn’t want to drown the spider down the drain, you know…I like spiders…just not in my mouth!

I go back to bed.

This morning I look for the spider, and find him still on the counter.

I take his picture, then try to catch him to put outside, but he’s too fast.

He’s still in there …

Somewhere…

Here’s his picture which is very much enlarged.

I wonder which one of us was more surprised? haha šŸ™‚

    • Thanks, Suzette!
It was an icky surprise, for sure! I’m just glad I didn’t swallow it. And, that it didn’t bite me, but guess he was mostly trying not to drown – haha!
Hope your days have been good. Keeping cool? I hear it is miserable over your way lately. Not good. Here is just the usual, but we’ve had rain off and on, not a lot, but better than none.
I’d love to hear about your adventures with the critters!
      Hugs – soul sistah! ā¤

So what did you do for today soul sista…???

      • That’s funny that your guys were freaked out at the story. My daughter showed my son-in-law too, and he was the same. He doesn’t like spiders at all!
This heat is awful, and I know it’s worse over your way. We try to get things done early, before it gets so bad in the afternoons.
I can just imagine what critters you come across out there, and I do want to hear about it.
We didn’t do much, just lunch, Target, and grocery store. I bought my camera there at Target a long time ago, and I wanted to see if they could figure out why the lens wouldn’t open any more. I guess the guy did something right, because it started working again.
        Keep cool soul Sistah ā¤

    • Thanks, Sandee!
I think I’ve heard that, too…spiders, bugs, etc. Not good to think about at all. šŸ™‚
Seems there are a lot of spiders around this time of year, too. Hope you’re spider free!

  2. There is a lot of stuff on the internet saying how many spiders each person swallows every year, but since I am not aware of ever swallowing any spiders, I don’t believe any of this.

    • Thanks, Jim!
I’ve heard that too, and that we eat bugs and parts of bugs in our food, too. Ewww! I’m always inspecting my food, just in case. I did once find a cockroach on the top of a frozen pot pie, one time. I saw it before I cooked it, thank goodness. I wrote the company and they sent me coupons for more of their products…uhh..I don’t think I want any more, thank you very much! šŸ™‚

    • Thanks, Lynn!
The only part that bothered me was that it was in my mouth. I like spiders, so they don’t scare me at all. It’s just he ick factor, as you can imagine! šŸ™‚

  3. That is one of the reasons why I don’t use straws at night. I have plastic straws for my drinking glasses (also isolated), but I’ll run water through them first before I use them. Too many late night visitors in the straw — and not just spiders. Blech (I lived in Florida and Virginia… all kinds of creepy crawlies there). Now I’m almost paranoid about it. ^_^

    • Thanks, Willow!
I’ve never been to Florida or Virginia, but I’ve heard stories about the bugs and such over that way. Good idea to run water through the straws first..I’ll have to remember that. Last night I covered the cup and straw with a wash cloth, hoping to prevent another incident with the spiders. šŸ™‚

  4. Good thing you rescued him from drowning and gave mouth to mouth. There is no telling what the outcome would have been! Whew.

    • haha! Mouth to mouth…ewww, not on purpose! But, hey, I saved the spider. I’ve been saving quite a few lately, only not that way. Thanks, Kelly! šŸ™‚

  5. Oh, one of my worst nightmares! I would have washed him away as fast as possible. Or maybe run out of the house. YUCK! Makes me cringe to think about it. You sound so calm….
