Sister – Song Lyric Sunday – Brother/Sister
Song Lyric Sunday Theme for 4/22/18
***
Today for SLS, Helen has given us the prompt word, ‘Brother/Sister’. Thanks, Helen!
This is one of my favorite songs, but it makes me sad. It has been speculated that it was written as a tribute to one of the band member’s sisters, who has passed on, but that has not been confirmed. It has also been mentioned that it was written by band member, Zac Malloy, about his sister who moved to California.
I just like it because it reminds me of my own sister. I haven’t seen her in a long time, ever since she moved out of town. We talk on the phone, but it’s just not the same as having fun, laughing, and talking about the early days.

“Sister”, by The Nixons, was released as a single from their album, “Foma”, in 1995. It was written by Zac Malloy, and is on the MCA label.

Overwhelming feelings
A thousand miles away
From your ocean home
Part of me is near
The miles that stand between
We can’t separate
Your all I hoped you’d become
Dancing on the stage
Of memory
Sister I miss you
Still they satisfy
Reminders of the next
Overshadow goodbye
Our flames burn as one
Dancing on the stage
Of memory
Sister I miss you
Thoughts of hope understood
Half of me breathes in you
Thoughts of love remain true
Still we fall asleep underneath the same sky
You’re all I knew you’d become
Dancing on the stage
Of memory
Sister I miss you
Our souls speak from across the miles
Intertwined, you and I
Our blood flows from the same inside
Half of me, breathes in you
Thoughts of love remain true
When I close my eyes
I see walking there…
I see you dancing in my mind
I get it. I live close to my sister and have for a long time but the two years I spent out-of-state was hard on us. I very much felt this way during my grad school days.
You’re lucky to live close to your sister. It is hard, when families are separated due to circumstances, like school, jobs, moving away and all. Thanks, Lynn. 🙂
This is a very peaceful song.
It is a great song, and so emotional. Our memories of earlier times are pretty powerful, and come to us in so many ways. Thanks, Jim. 🙂
It’s a beautiful song. 💯
Thanks, Felicia. You can just feel his longing to see his sister, again. I know I’ve felt that way before. 🙂
I’ve contemplated moving before, but I already live too far away from my sister (45 minutes). I think I would feel the same way if I couldn’t see her as often as I do, which isn’t as often as I’d like.
I remember hearing this song in the 90’s, but I for sure didn’t appreciate it back then. I really enjoyed hearing it again. Thanks so much for sharing!
Thanks, Helen. I’m glad you live fairly close to your sister and can see her every so often. At least there are new and better ways to communicate now, with emails and phone face times. When we were moving around while the mister was in the army, there wasn’t all that. We just wrote letters, which was great, and I miss doing that too! 🙂
It is great that we have better ways to communicate, but it’s just not the same as seeing them in person. 😉
