Dear Diary – December 17 – 27, 1961

Dear Diary – December 17 – 27 , 1961

For those who haven’t seen my Dear Diary posts before, a little explanation. This is my actual diary I wrote in for a full year, when I was 10 years old. I wrote every day, sometimes a lot, sometimes a little, sometimes funny, sometimes boring, but it was all recorded. Names of relatives are only first initials with relationship in parentheses. I’ve typed the entries just as I wrote them, misspellings and all, but corrected in parentheses. More posts of Dear Diary can be found by using categories, or search box. Hope you enjoy reading my childhood diary! 🙂

Dear Diary,

10/17/61 – P (sister) went to the Doctor. I played.

10/18/61 – I went to school. P (sister) did not go. I played.

10/19/61 – I went to school. I played.

10/20/61 – I went to school. I played. We got our fim (home movie film we’d had sent off to be developed)

10/21/61 – I went to school. I played. It was open house. We visited school.

10/22/61 – I went to school. We looked at all the rooms. (each school room & doors had been decorated for Christmas). We had our party. I got a bank, a comb, a purce (purse), a kye (key) chain. I had fun.

10/23/61 – I went over grandmas. I played.

10/24/61 – I played. It was Christmas Eve. We went to grannys. I got a grey poodel dog (stuffed toy poodle dog).

10/25/61 – It was Christmas. I got two balls, weveing loom (weaving), perfume, How to draw a dog (a step by step book of how to draw a dog) (I did a lot of these drawings, in charcoal pencils), a babette (this was a doll like a Barbie doll, but not Barbie – my cousin got a ‘real’ Barbie doll – I was kind of upset!), a suitcase, concentraintion (a concentration game, like the TV game show), slippers, mossiken (moccasin shoes), pen, neclace (necklace) and bracelet.

10/26/61 – I went to twon (town). We played.

10/27/61 – I played. We went to the store.

Thanks for visiting! Peace ☮️

    • It seems everything back then was much simpler. We found our own fun, whether indoors or out, and there were no computers or phones to be staring at all day. 🙂

  1. Aww.😚 such a lovely post. I read them all. I found your obsession with playing everday like literally everyday. 😀 You were a happy child.
How are your grandchildren? The love playing?

    • Thank you! Yes, I did play at something every day. Nothing else to do, except school. Back then we didn’t have cell phones, or computers to keep us entertained, so we’d be finding something fun to do. 🙂

      • Oh you’re right. But you know what, back then the days were more simpler and fun because you have alot of outdoor activities to do but today, this technology has got us so much into it that we’ve become couch potatoes.

      • Yes, we had to use our imagination, and make do with what we had. No fancy video games, or toys. We rode bikes, played jump rope, and had fun with neighborhood friends. Too much couch potato sitting these days. 🙂
