This week for SLS, Helen has reminded us of the days when actual pen and paper letters were written and sent. So, the suggested prompt is ‘letters’.
Thank you, Helen!

“Return to Sender”, by Elvis Presley, was released as a single from the album, “Girls, Girls, Girls”, in 1962. It was written by Winfield Scott, and Otis Blackwell, and is on the RCA Victor label.

[Intro: Elvis Presley]
Return to sender!
Return to sender!
[Verse 1: Elvis Presley]
I gave a letter to the postman
He put it in his sack
Bright in early next morning
He brought my letter back
[Verse 2: Elvis Presley]
She wrote upon it
Return to sender, address unknown
No such number, no such zone
We had a quarrel, a lover’s spat
I write I’m sorry but my letter keeps coming back
[Verse 3: Elvis Presley]
So then I dropped it in the mailbox
And sent it special D
Bright in early next morning
It came right back to me
[Bridge: Elvis Presley]
She wrote upon it
Return to sender, address unknown
No such person, no such zone
This time I’m gonna take it myself
And put it right in her hand
And if it comes back the very next day
Then I’ll understand the writing on it
[Outro: Elvis Presley]
Return to sender, address unknown
No such number, no such zone
Return to sender
Return to sender
Return to sender
Return to sender

Now, here’s another one. I actually chose this one first, but then found someone else had already picked this one. Oh well, I figure we all have lots of different readers on our blogs, so I’m including this one, too.

“P. S. I Love You”, by the Beatles, was released as the B side of the single, “Love Me Do”, in 1962 (UK), and 1964 (US). It was credited to the John Lennon/Paul McCartney team, as the writers, but I read that it was mostly the creation from Paul McCartney. It is on the Parlophone, and Tollie 9008 labels.
This song I found is a cover of the Beatles song. I found that most all of the Beatles song videos have been removed from Youtube.
I don’t know who did this cover, but it’s very good, in my opinion, and the photos included are nice for remembering. It also fits the prompt of writing letters.
Hope you enjoy going down memory lane with this one!

*[Chorus 1]
As I write this letter
Send my love to you
Remember that I’ll always
Be in love with you
[Chorus 2]
Treasure these few words till we’re together
Keep all my love forever
P.S. I love you
You, you, you
[Chorus 3]
I’ll be coming home again to you, love
And till the day I do, love
P.S. I love you
You, you, you
[Chorus 1]
As I write this letter
Send my love to you
Remember that I’ll always
Be in love with you
[Chorus 2]
Treasure these few words till we’re together
Keep all my love forever
P.S. I love you
You, you, you
As I write this letter
Send my love to you
Remember that I’ll always
Be in love with you
[Chorus 3]
I’ll be coming home again to you, love
And till the day I do, love
P.S. I love you
You, you, you**

I remember both those songs. P.S. is a great follow-up song to Presley’s. Oh gosh, now you have me thinking about postal songs.
Thanks! Glad you enjoyed them both. There seemed to be a lot to choose from, and it was fun looking for them. 🙂
Both great choices for the prompt!
Thanks! I hadn’t heard either one in a long time, so I enjoyed finding them for this prompt! 🙂
I love this song but never would have thought of it!
Thanks! I found there are a lot of great songs about letters, and it was hard to just choose these! 😉
😊
“Return to Sender” had popped into my mind after I’d already started my post, but thought for sure more than one person would pick it. I can’t believe no one else did, but glad to see the song made it at least once! 🙂
Thanks! I figured this one would be chosen a lot, too. I’m glad I posted it, because it is such a great song. 🙂
Return to Sender, did occur to me but I have to admit I am not an Elvis Presley fan, silly I know but a fact. It is a perfect fit for the post and a great song. The two covers we both picked are good but don’t touch the original. Something out the raw youth of McCartney’s voice. I am not a Fan of Paul McCartney but can’t deny talent like Elvis! Gosh I sound like a meany! As to the original Beatles music being removed from YouTube it is down to Apple who have owned all the Beatles rights for years . Shame really but the way if the world. It was an excellent prompt this week! 💜
Thanks! I’m glad we both picked the Beatles cover songs. That way we can hear how they were done a bit differently. Both were really good, but I agree, nobody can do it like the Beatles! You know, I was never a fan of Elvis back when he was so popular, but now I do appreciate his talent and songs. I had no idea until I started looking, that the Beatles songs were not available to even view! It was a great prompt! 🙂
These are both great songs for this prompt. I was thinking about the Elvis song, but it just isnt my style. 😉
Thanks, Helen! There were quite a few songs about letters and such. I like Elvis songs a lot better now, than a long time ago, for some reason! 🙂
It’s strange how are tastes change over time. 😏
This is true! 🙂
