Stream of Consciousness Saturday – SOCS – his/her’s

The Friday Reminder and Prompt for #SoCS Feb. 17/18

***

Today’s prompt suggestion is to use ‘his/her’s’. Thanks, Linda!

His and Her’s monogrammed towels. Yeah, that’s what I first thought about. Why that? I remember when I was a kid, we’d go to my granny’s house on Christmas Eve for a get together with some family members that were in town. We didn’t see these relatives very often, just at Christmas mostly. We’d have supper, a gift exchange, and most times the men would play dominoes.

Anyway, my aunt would all the time give my mom a set of his & her monogrammed towels. I always thought it was a nice gift, and were really pretty. Later on my mom would complain about it. She didn’t care for them, year after year, and said it wasn’t a good gift because there was no thought behind it. It was as if my aunt just grabbed something, without thinking of what my mom would like, or her interests, or anything.

Do they even have monogrammed towels these days? I have no idea, but if we had some I’m sure we wouldn’t care what towel we used, just so we had one to dry off with. If I only had the ‘his’ towel, I’d use it just fine.

That makes me think of toys for kids. You know, boy toys and girl toys. Why does it make any difference what toy a kid plays with? I know my sister and I had plenty of so called boy toys, like trucks and cars, cap pistols, and little green Army men plastic figures to play with. My first bike was a boy’s bike. We also had our dolls, and tea party sets, and play jewelry and make-up sets. I think a child can choose what they like to play with, and it may be the so called boys toys or girl toys, no matter if the child is a girl or boy. They’ll go from one to the other many times during a day of play.

So, that’s my thoughts on this lovely Saturday, about all things his and hers.

    • Thanks so much! I’m going to have to make a point of looking for monogrammed towels at the store next time we go somewhere. Or maybe they have to be ordered these day? I’m glad you got a chance to stop by and enjoyed reading. 🙂

    • Oh, that’s really nice! I don’t think we’ve ever had anything that was monogrammed. I was just thinking how we do have our favorite things to use. I have my favorite coffee mug, types of forks, and spoons, and yes towels. I grab the same ones all the time. 🙂

  1. I remember being sent a petition once that demanded that they put gender neutral toys in Kinder Eggs. I was bemused because as far as I know…they were already? I once got a truck that I was very happy with. Most toys with the exception of Barbie’s can be used by anyone anyway… But I suppose marketing goes into various products and whatnot.

There was a show called Young Justice that was actually cancelled because not enough boys were watching the show and subsequently buying the related merchandise. Apparently it was more popular with girls which didn’t fit into their business model. That’s still one of the most bizarre things I’ve hard, lol.

    • That is strange that they would cancel a show like that. If it was bringing in views and money, what does it matter if more girls were watching it than boys. Oh, and how do they even know this information? As for the prizes in the toy eggs, I figure most kids just like getting a toy, whatever it might be. Wonder how that petition went, and if they changed what toys they included in the egg. 🙂
