I’ve chosen two songs to feature today, because why not? They are two completely different themes, yet both have sounds in their titles.

This first one is  sung by Haley Mills. You probably remember her from her roles in movies and television. I’ve always enjoyed them.

“Ching Ching and a Ding Ding Ding”, by Haley Mills, was released in 1962. It was written by Richard M. Sherman and Robert B. Sherman, and is on the Buena Vista label.

The song seems to be about about a girl having a crush on a guy, while in high school. Sounds all innocent and sweet, if a little cheesy. I like the song, though, and even have the actual 45 record!

Ding Ding Ding

Ching ching, and a ding ding ding
Ching ching, and a ding ding ding
Ching ching, and a ding ding ding

I know a fellow just as cute as can be
Ching ching, and a ding ding ding
I really think that he’s the boy for me
Ching ching, and a ding ding ding
He takes me to dances and he sure knows how
He’s a real humdinger and a triple wow
Ching ching, and a ding ding ding
Ching ching, and a ding ding ding
Ching ching, and a ding ding ding

We go together but when we are alone
Ching ching, and a ding ding ding
We’re always talking on the telephone
Ching ching, and a ding ding ding
We went to the cinema and as I planned
The plot got exciting and he held my hand
Ching ching

Oo-oo-oo, when we twist yeah yeah
(yeah yeah yeah yeah, yeah yeah yeah)
Oo-oo-oo, it’s just the swingingest
(yeah yeah)
You’re my style, crocodile

If I had the pick of all the boys in town
Ching ching, and a ding ding ding
I’d pick him up and put the others down
Ching ching, and a ding ding ding
On a string I wear his high school ring
I’m his queen and he’s my everything
Ching ching, and a ding ding ding
Ching ching

INTERLUDE

You’re my style, crocodile
If I had the pick of all the boys in town
Ching ching, and a ding ding ding
I’d pick him up and put the others down
Ching ching, and a ding ding ding
On a string I wear his high-school ring
I’m his queen and he’s my everything
Ching ching, and a ding ding ding

This next song is, shall we say, a bit more mature in it’s theme suggestions. I like it, too.

“(Get It On) Bang a Gong”, by T-rex, was released as a single from the album, “Electric Warrior”, in 1971. It was written by Marc Bolen, and is on the Fly (UK) and Reprise (U.S.) labels.

Well you’re dirty and sweet, clad in black
Don’t look back and I love you
You’re dirty and sweet, oh yeah
Well you’re slim and you’re weak
You’ve got the teeth of a hydra upon you
You’re dirty sweet and you’re my girl

Get it on, bang the gong, get it on
Get it on, bang the gong, get it on

You’re built like a car,
You’ve got a hub cap diamond star halo
You’re built like a car, oh yeah
You’re an untamed youth that’s the truth
With your cloak full of eagles
You’re dirty sweet and you’re my girl

Get it on, bang the gong, get it on
Get it on, bang the gong, get it on

You’re windy and wild,
You’ve got the blues in your shoes and your stockings
You’re windy and wild, oh yeah
You’re built like a car,
You’ve got a hub cap diamond star halo
You’re dirty sweet and you’re my girl

Get it on, bang the gong, get it on
Get it on, bang the gong, get it on

You’re dirty and sweet,
Clad in black, don’t look back and I love you
You’re dirty and sweet, oh yeah
You dance when you walk so let’s dance,
Take a chance, understand me
You’re dirty sweet and you’re my girl

Get it on, bang the gong, get it on
Get it on, bang the gong, get it on

Get it on, bang the gong, get it on
Get it on

Get it on, bang the gong, get it on
Get it on, bang the gong, get it on

Get it on, bang the gong, get it on
Get it on, bang the gong, get it on

Take me
For a meanwhile I’m still thinking

    • Oh, that’s cool, Olga! It’s always interesting how a song can take you right back to where you were when you heard it. Glad you enjoyed hearing it again. 🙂

  1. I like both these songs. I had heard Bang a Gong but never knew the name or the artist before. I wonder what a girl would say today if a boy said she was built like a car. lol
