Today we are asked to post about a song that brings back a happy memory.

This song is a bluesy, and somewhat sad song, but I have a good memory of it.

I love all Elton John’s songs, so have good memories of most of them, as well as most other songs. I’ve posted so many on here, so it was a bit hard to find one I hadn’t talked about.

You know when you’re at the grocery store, and you hear the store’s speakers playing songs? I admit, I sing along to them as I’m going up and down the aisles. I even see the store’s workers singing along to songs, too. This being one of my favorite songs that my daughter and I like to hear, we were going along singing this song, really loud, and sort of dancing around. It was fun. 🙂

“I Guess Why They Call It the Blues”, by Elton John, was released as a single from the album, “Too Low for Zero”, in 1983. It was written by Elton John, Bernie Taupin, andDavey Johnstone, and is on the label Rocket and Geffen (US).

Don’t wish it away
Don’t look at it like it’s forever
Between you and me I could honestly say
That things can only get better

And while I’m away
Dust out the demons inside
And it won’t be long before you and me run
To the place in our hearts where we hide

And I guess that’s why they call it the blues
Time on my hands could be time spent with you
Laughing like children, living like lovers
Rolling like thunder under the covers
And I guess that’s why they call it the blues

Just stare into space
Picture my face in your hands
Live for each second without hesitation
And never forget I’m your man

Wait on me girl
Cry in the night if it helps
But more than ever I simply love you
More than I love life itself

And I guess that’s why they call it the blues
Time on my hands could be time spent with you
Laughing like children, living like lovers
Rolling like thunder under the covers
And I guess that’s why they call it the blues

Wait on me girl
Cry in the night if it helps
But more than ever I simply love you
More than I love life itself

And I guess that’s why they call it the blues
Time on my hands could be time spent with you
Laughing like children, living like lovers
Rolling like thunder under the covers
And I guess that’s why they call it the blues

And I guess that’s why they call it the blues
And I guess that’s why they call it the blues

  1. This is one of my favorite Elton John songs. I drove my wife crazy playing it (loudly) over and over and over….Didn’t know it at the time I bought the CD, but Stevie Wonder plays the harmonica on this song. Nice choice!

    • It is such a good song! I’d never seen the video before I posted this one, so wasn’t even sure what it was about, just that I liked it, but now I’ve seen it, and read about how it came to be, it makes me like the song even more. Happy to have posted one of your favorites! 🙂

  2. I was going to say that I’m not a huge Elton John fan, but after listening to the song, I can’t imagine why I’m not. It is such a great song! Thanks so much for sharing! I love SLS because it opens my eyes to things I’ve previously turned away from. 😊
