We are to talk about food and booze shopping for Christmas.

We don’t buy any special ‘booze’. We have beer here only, and when it gets low supply, we get some more. That’s just how it is. Nothing special

For Christmas food we don’t usually do anything traditional. If we have turkey for Thanksgiving (which is not a requirement for us), we’d not want turkey again for Christmas. We don’t really enjoy turkey very much. Sometimes it is good, but we don’t go out of our way to fix one. We used to do the whole meal deal when the kids were young, because it seemed the thing to do, and they enjoyed it all, from snacks, main meal, and desserts. 🙂

The last quite a few years, we do fun things for our holiday meals. When the whole family would get together, we’d have planned a theme. Everyone would be assigned or would volunteer some things to bring. Here’s some of the ones we did:

  1. Cook-out on the grill in the back yard, either steaks, hot dogs, or hamburgers.
  2. Spaghetti
  3. Roast beef
  4. Hors d’oeuvres, finger-foods, snacks only.
  5. Chili cook-off. (this was fun – each family brought their special home-made chili for a contest!)
  6. Bar-B-Q of different types, like brisket, chicken, sausages.

There may have been more themes, but that’s all I can think of right now. We always had a good time with this kind of meal.

We’ve also gone out to eat for both holiday meals. It was good, but there’s usually a long line or pretty crowded at some restaurants. There is a fancy hotel in town that does up a great holiday meal. We’ve gone there a time or two.

So, that’s what we do for our Christmas meals. It’s fun and enjoyable. 🙂

Thanks for visiting! Peace }i{

  1. I agree on the booze. I usually do finger food fings for the whole few days, but this year, I’ve decided the room in the fridge is more important so I’m doin a basic ham, mac n’ cheese, peas…I dunno what all, but basic.

    • Ham is good anytime! I think we may be having a roast this year. That’s been the discussion so far. We’ll be at my daughter’s house in MO so we decided easy and simple is best this time! Why spend too much time cooking, when there is fun shopping, and our annual Scrabble showdown to play! 🙂
