One Word Photo Challenge: Dirt

***

This week’s challenge was to find photos of dirt.

Here we have a pile of dirt in a parking lot, some dirt by the sign at the McDonald Observatory, at Ft. Davis, TX, and a plowed field of black land dirt, in east TX, with growing plants.

The last two photos are … The white sand dunes located near Monahans, TX. It’s in the Monahans Sandhills State Park in southwest TX. I was reading about it, and it said the sand dunes were sometimes up to 70 feet high. The area where they are located is 70 miles long, and 20 miles wide. We visited here a few years ago, and climbed around in the sand.

The last photo is a half dug-0ut house. It is located at the Ranching Heritage Center here in town. It is actually dug into the side of a hill, and the items were brought here from the original half dug-out located in another county. People long ago who were settling this area, made these type of houses, since there are very few trees around to make above ground houses with the wood. They usually had dirt floors, too.
