Well, a few interesting things happened on these days. This Dr. Harvy (not sure I spelled the name right) was a foot doctor? Podiatrist? Anyway, I’ve always had weak ankles, so I’d have to go to get foot x-rays, and special shoes, and arch supports every so often. I hated those shoes…they were brown, lace up oxfords…ugh…I just wanted cute shoes, like my friends wore, you know…strappy sandals, mary janes, tennis shoes…anything but those ugly brown ones. I wore them for years, then finally, I could get regular shoes, probably by the time I was in Jr. High school. The pads/supports…they were torture…and made of steel. I guess stainless steel? Anyway, I still have them, and they look so small, now.

Next…Monterrey, was a shopping mall, before there were such things here in town. Lots of stores, surrounding an open courtyard. It seemed fancy, at the time. The shopping center is still here, too.

I collected glass figurines for years. They were cute, and every time I’d go to the dime store, I’d get a couple to add to my collection.

Oh, skating…with those metal skates, with leather straps, and a skate key to tighten the skates to your shoes. Yep, I loved skating, and I always fell down…I got better at it later on though. I didn’t get any better at being clumsy…I still fall down, even without skates on.

And, finally…I have no idea what kind of shot my sister would have gotten. I was probably glad it wasn’t me getting one!

CRICKET CAT, CACTUS, and ART

CRICKET CAT, CACTUS, and ARTzentangles and art 011

I think my cat, Cricket, likes my art project. Or maybe she’s just curious?

If you’re wondering what on earth is in that flower pot, well…it is rocks, painted to look like cacti, cactus, a bunch of cactuses? Well, anyway, I saw something done like this on, of course, Pinterest, and had to try it. I’ve painted on rocks for years…mostly animals, and have done Peace signs, and words, so why not some cactus. I’m sure a real cactus would be laughing at the wanna be cactus, but hey…I tried. So…Nailed or Failed…either way, I enjoyed painting them.:)

The painting in the background, I did many years ago. It’s with acrylics, and on a thick piece of paper.

For now, I’ll keep painting rocks, and pictures, and drawing Zentangles. I have a really cool one started in black and silver, and I’ll post it when it’s done!

Buffalo Lake is a fairly big lake, close to the city. There were actual buffalo there, too. We’d go for picnics, and some fishing, and one of my aunts and uncles had a cabin there. Occasionally we’d stay over night. I think this time we just stayed the day, and I remember we cut cattails to take home.

The library was one of my favorite places to go. At the time, it was the only one in town. When you first walked in, you could smell that certain aroma of books. I’d check out as many as I could. I couldn’t wait to get my grown-up library card. 🙂

SHARE YOUR WORLD … WEEK # 29

SHARE YOUR WORLD … WEEK # 29sywbanner

This week’s questions from Cee, and her blog  are as follows: http://ceenphotography.com/2015/07/20/share-your-world

1. As a child, what did you want to be when you grew up?

As I mentioned on a previous post, I wanted to be an archeologist. I was fascinated by old relics, bones, civilizations, antiquities. Sometimes I’d be out running around outside, and find some old, weathered bones of an animal, and I’d gather them up, take them home, and try to put them back together. That’s as much as I did in the way of becoming an archeologist. I still love to find old things, like antiques, letters, ephemera, and study about ancient people and their way of life. Doing research is a form of digging, I’d say…digging for information…so in a way you could say I’m doing what I always wanted to do.

2. What was your favorite food as a child? Do you eat it now?

I’ve always liked pretty much everything to eat. Probably I’d say whatever I was eating was my favorite at the time. One thing I do not like and will never eat, is applesauce. My mom would try to hide any medicine I had to take in a bowl of applesauce. I could always tell it was there, though. Ugh…to this day, I gag if I see it or smell it.

3. If you were invisible, where would you go?

I am invisible…I’m Ghost…:)  Actually, I’d go all different places, to haunt, to eavesdrop, to play tricks by moving things around.

4. Would you rather forget everyone’s name all the time, or have everyone forget your name all the time?

I already forget people’s name all the time. I have a habit of naming people (in my mind) what they should be named, by how they act, or look, or if they remind me of something. I only let it slip up once that I know of. I called a lady I knew, Dorothy, when her real name was Carla. She just laughed when I explained that she looked like a Dorothy to me. So I guess it doesn’t bother me if people forget my name, as long as they recognize me when they see me…and they can call me whatever they want.

5. Bonus Question: What are you grateful for from last week, and what are you looking forward to in the week coming up?

I’m grateful for …as the old song goes…’the birds, and the bees, and the flowers and the trees, and the moon up above, and a thing called looove’

What I’m looking forward to is my daughter and her family (who live in another state) coming to visit next week! 🙂

Thanks again, Cee, for such interesting and fun questions!

BOOK TAG: READING HABITS TAG

BOOK TAG: READING HABITS TAG

I was recently tagged to answer some questions about books, and reading habits. Thank you Sheila Renee Parker, for thinking of me for this fun questionnaire. Sheila’s blog can be found at https:sheilarparker.wordpress.com/2015-07/17/book-tag-reading-habits-tag/

The questions are as follows:

1. Do you have a certain place at home for reading?

I do. I usually read late at night, sitting in an old style recliner, (that is covered with 2 animal print snuggies), in my bedroom. Another place, is in the living room, on the couch. I know some people like to read while reclining in their bed, but it just doesn’t work for me…my arms get tired of holding up the book, and the light shines in my eyes.

2.  Bookmark, or random piece of paper?

Bookmark…I have a lot of them, all kinds, all pretty or cute. So, yes, I use a bookmark. I used to dog-ear my books, but not any more.

3.  Can you just stop reading, or do you have to stop after a chapter/a certain amount of pages?

I can just stop anywhere in my reading. I even stop in the middle of a sentence sometimes, or go to sleep sitting there holding the book. When I wake up, I continue, right from where I left off on the page. Having ADHD, I get distracted easily, so have no problem stopping, wandering off to do something, and eventually I get back to the book. It doesn’t bother me to do this, no matter how long I’m away.

4. Do you eat or drink while reading?

Yes, all the time. If I’m reading, I’m snacking, or drinking coffee or iced-tea. I get more reading done during a meal, than any other time.

5. Multi-tasking: music or tv while reading.

Most of the time, yes, to both, sometimes all three at the same time. The tv is on most of the time, then my husband will turn on the music, and I’m reading, with all the noise. I can tune it all out, if I’m engrossed in a story. The opposite of distraction is hyper-focus. So, it doesn’t bother me.

6. One book at a time, or several at once?

Several at a time. I usually have one started in the living room, another in the bedroom, and one in the kitchen (I read while standing there waiting on something to get finished cooking). Whichever room I’m in, I pick right up where I left off reading that book. I don’t usually switch rooms for them, either.

7. Reading at home, or everywhere?

Only at home. I take a book with me, just in case, but find I’m too distracted by watching people, or whatever I see. I do a lot of writing while out and about, though. in a little notebook I take with me. I observe, and write what I see.

8. Reading out loud, or silently in your head?

Silently, in my head. I’m a terrible out-loud reader, stumbling over the words, then that makes me lose concentration.

9. Do you read ahead, or even skip pages?

Hardly ever. Sometimes, I’ve skipped a really boring part, if the words drone on and on with descriptions. I’ll skip over to where the conversation between characters starts up again.

10. Breaking the spine of the book, or keeping it like new?

If I’ve borrowed a book from someone, I’ll be careful with it. Otherwise, for my own books, yes, I’ll break the spine every time. It’s easier to read flat pages, for me. A lot of my books are from the used book store, or library sales, yard sales, etc. so they are already broken in.

11. Do you write in your books?

No, never. If I want to write something, I’ll find a post-it note, or small paper, to write on, then leave it in the book.

~

So that’s all the questions. Hope you enjoyed reading them. Thank you again, Sheila!

I didn’t really see any rules for this, so I’m not tagging anyone specifically. If anyone is interested in answering these questions on your own blog, feel free to do so. 🙂

*** Pretty much every summer, we’d all go to pick black-eyed peas on a local farm. Sometimes my aunt and uncle would grow some peas on their acreage, too, and we’d pick some of those. Then the fun would start…shelling them all…and there were a bunch of them. It was fun, though to get a big glass of iced-tea, and sit around the kitchen table with family, shelling, and talking of whatever came to mind. Occasionally a pea would go flying off into the floor, and at the end, they’d have to be swept up. Then mama would get busy with her canning. With the pressure cooker going, and the jars awaiting the peas, we knew, come winter, we’d have some good eating to look forward to. 🙂

SHARE YOUR WORLD

SHARE YOUR WORLDsywbanner

For week # 28, the questions can be found at http://ceenphotography.com/2015/07/13share-your-world … Thank you Cee!

Questions and Answers …

1. What is your favorite comfort snack food?

Anything sweet will do, but doughnuts are my favorite. I like them any which way, any size, any flavor. I wouldn’t ever turn one down. My family knows this, and have in the past, given me a dozen Krispy Kreme doughnuts, wrapped up like a gift for Christmas. My daughter even made me a birthday cake out of some, all stacked up and frosted with chocolate, and candles on top. (that was the time I caught my hair afire while blowing out the candles…I won’t say how many ;-)…

2. If you had to spend one weekend alone in a single store, but could remove nothing, which store would you pick?

Not sure what you mean by remove nothing…but I guess I could use what’s in the store?

Probably Wal-mart. It has everything I’d need to get by for the weekend. There is food, of course, and books to read, games to play, televisions to watch, music…well, just everything you would want to do. And, the garden center…I could pretend all those flowers and plants were my garden for the weekend. I am no good at growing plants, and even those I transplant, or even houseplants, never last long. So, that would be nice to enjoy them all for a little while.

3. What was the largest city you have been to? What is the one thing you remember most?

The largest city I’ve been to is Tokyo, Japan. We lived there (right on the outskirts of the city) for almost two years. We’d catch the train or subway, and go into the city to shop, and to eat fabulous food. There were so many people, lots of traffic, and everyone was so friendly. My daughters were very small, and had their baby blond hair, which the Japanese ladies would always stop us and make a fuss over them.

4. Finish this sentence: It has recently come to my attention that…

Well, I think it’s come to my attention, that I spend way too much time thinking of what my answers will be for these questions. I seem to read them, then spend hours thinking of how to answer them, when maybe I should just dash something off …I don’t know…I love doing these questions and answers, and reading everyone else’s so will continue however it turns out.

5. Bonus question: What are you grateful for from last week, and what are you looking forward to in the week coming up?

I have no idea, other than the usual …you know, happy that we are still alive to answer these questions. We haven’t all melted from the extreme heat of the summer, and hopefully not been washed away in the flooding rains. Hopefully everyone had a good week and weekend, and have some fun and laughs this week, too.
