SOUL MATES (You and I)

You imprint me with your kisses,

I impress your very soul.

You leave fingerprints upon me,

I am yours to always hold.

I believe you have bewitched me,

You have a way with words.

I feel my spirit soaring,

You give me wings, like birds.

You know I’ll never fly away,

I love you much too strong.

You know what you will do someday,

I pray that I am wrong.

I know I’ve lived a mortal life;

You are not from this place.

I feel this time is sweet but short,

You will miss my warm embrace.

I sense you fading into the mist…

You promise we’ll meet again.

I cling to you for one last kiss,

You smile and then ascend.

This is a form of poetry called black-out, or found poetry. Take a page from any book, pick random words to use in your poem, blacking out the rest of the page. This one is taken from the book “Urban Legends” by Richard Roeper, page149.

TONIGHT

Hypnotic and driven,

The echo generated a dramatic mood.

I feel the coming crescendo…

Perfect for haunting, tonight.

HALLOWEEN HAPPINESS

Halloween comes but once a year

It is my favorite day.

Instead of being melancholy,

Let’s chase the clouds away.

I’ll drizzle caramel on crisp, red apples,

And add rainbow sprinkles, too.

I’ll make enough for all of us,

And certainly for you.

We’ll decorate with orange and black,

And, if it rains, who cares?

We’ll grab our sack,

And not look back,

As we go on down the stairs.

You’ll paint your face,

Wear satin and lace…

A pretty princess you will be.

And I will be a cute, funny bunny…

Hopping around for all to see.

Then when we get home,

And the night is ’bout gone,

We’ll relive all the fun we had.

We’ll eat lots of candy,

And feel real dandy…

That we didn’t have time to be sad.

PROGRESSION OF EXPRESSION

I throw some words up in the air.

Here they land, and there, and there.

I pick them up, one by one.

Hey, guess what? This is fun!

But, then I sit, and fuss and stare;

I even start to pull my hair.

I meditate, procrastinate,

I work myself into a state.

How can I put these words together?

I line them up…now, that’s better.

I’m out of time…I need a rhyme!

I want my silly poem to shine.

This has nothing to do with Halloween –

“It’s hard,” I say, “do you know what I mean?”

Mix and match, those words to catch.

Why can’t I make my ideas hatch?

Arrange those words, now pick and choose.

I can do this – I won’t lose.

Now take a breath, it’s not life and death…

It’s fun and creative – quite motivative

To keep on trying, with a minimum of crying.

I do what I do to entertain you…

And tomorrow I might get back to BOO!

~

*Note – I did do this today. I took a handful of magnetic poetry words, threw them up, and attempted to put them in some sort of coherent poem. This was what I came up with (all these words were there)…and both are pretty nonsensical, but it was fun to do! 🙂 Here’s what happened…

Sock monster must swat in blue grass

Dad did surprise family here

Brother has old meow

and ~

The woman’s flower boy likes you, over green cookies.

Help to sleep, my mad, curious elephant.

WITCHY FUN

From Oz to Salem, to suburban mayhem,

The witches entertained us all.

The witch of the west, was creepy at best,

And Glinda was belle of the ball.

Samantha twitched her nose,

Whenever she chose, and

Sabrina’s cat talks to her, it is true.

Elphaba was wicked,

Endora was vivid…

They all were an interesting crew.

The Sanderson sisters were funny and camp,

The witches of Eastwick were duped…

They all used their craft, and a bit of their vamp,

But Morticia’s my all favorite champ.

Shows referenced = Bewitched, The Wizard of Oz, The Addams Family, Sabrina the Teenage Witch,  Hocus Pocus, The Witches of Eastwick, and Wicked (broadway play)

IF WE LIVED IN THE WOODS

If we lived in the woods,

What would we do?

Watch out for wolves,

And practice ‘hoo-doo’.

If we lived in the woods,

It would never be dull.

We would pick mushrooms and

Light up the skull.

If we lived in the woods,

We would not have a phone.

We could bake a cake and

Visit the Crone.

If we lived in the woods,

We would have to be focused.

We’d have to watch out for

Bats and the locusts.

If we lived in the woods,

We’d light a candle.

It would never be too much

to handle.

If we lived in the woods,

We’d sit and converse,

With the flora and fauna and

Things of the Earth.

If we lived in the woods,

We’d chant and invoke,

Spirits of those of whom

Time never spoke.

If we lived in the woods,

We’d never be sad.

The rest of the world will

Call us Mad.

If we lived in the woods,

We’d play ‘neath the pines.

We’d make our peace with the

Spooks and the Signs.

If we lived in the woods,

We would howl at the moon,

And dance in it’s light

From August ’til June.

If we lived in the woods…

If we lived in the woods…

SPIDER

She was full of vim and vigor

’til spider pulled the trigger

He crept up and bit her

She developed mortis rigor

On this sunny day…

If she’d been a little quicker

So spider wouldn’t pick her

We’d need not call the vicar

And notify the digger

What more is there to say…

So, we’ll pass around the liquor

And raise up our jigger

Sweet blessings we will give her

To go toward something bigger

And send her on her way…

REVIVAL

A nagging pain, like cotton wool, muffles my thoughts

My head hurts, just need to close my eyes

Maybe a breath of fresh, fall air will ease my senses

Sunny, mid-morning yellow, surrounded by cool, blue skies

Listening to the silence of the falling leaves

One, two, three, then more

They touch me like soft butterflies

Raining down in golden drops of autumn

A crispy carpet at my feet, I smile as I hear my cat

Pouncing and leaping to catch the falling curiosities

My tree laughs and smiles, as a soft breeze tickles her branches

She shakes herself, releasing her finery for us to enjoy

We have nothing to fear, as winter comes near…

Her words are felt in my soul

As I open my eyes, looking upward,

I am thankful for this gorgeous fall day,

And find my pain gone away

DECEPTION

Six times six times six, again

Dark and lonely, was I in…

This moldy grave.

Barely breathing, heart still beating…

None to hear my mad-man rave.

Cursed and cast into the void,

For eons have I toyed…

To claim all psyche’s pure and good…

To corrupt them, if I could.

Six feet under, left asunder,

Tricked them, now they’re mine…

They never knew I was immortal,

To rise again…it’s time.

Years of torture, hell’s departure…

Vengence will be taken.

I’ll tempt, and bend, and lure to sin…

And, they shall be forsaken.
